Different types of football bets

There are quite a few ways to wager on football and here we will discuss the different types of football bets you are most likely to encounter at the sportsbooks. Starting with the king of all football bets - the point spread, i.e. spread betting. Unlike soccer, for example, where the most popular bet is the money line (who will win the game), in NFL football betting, the most popular wager is the point spread. Football spread betting is a bet you play usually against other players and not directly the sportsbook. After the odds maker decides on the opening point spread of the NFL football games, it's in the bettors hands to move the point spread up and down via their wagers. For more on how point spread works, visit our home page. Here are some other popular football bets:

Money Line - the money line is a simple bet, the bettor wagering on which NFL team will win the game.

Totals - the bettor wagers whether the combined total score of an NFL football game will be Over or Under the total posted by the odds makers.

Parlays - with parlays you place a multiple wagers bet (for example, on five NFL games) and in order to win the bet, all wagers must be "win". If you fail to guess the correct result on one of the five wagers you lose the entire bet.
